Ingredients You Need
What makes a carrot cake smoothie taste like actual carrot cake? We have a couple tricks up our sleeve!
Our #1 secret in this smoothie is cashew butter! The cashew butter in this smoothie adds the savoriness you get in a piece of carrot cake, that is not too savory and not too sweet. Here are all the other ingredients you need:
- Carrots
- Bananas
- Cashew Butter
- Almond Milk
- Oats
- Maple Syrup
- Ginger
- Cinnamon
Pro tip
We use ginger and cinnamon to make this smoothie taste a bit more like carrot cake. Feel free to add spices like cardamom, allspice, or cloves for a little extra spice. You can also use a couple of teaspoons of our DIY chai spices.
The Blender You Need
How do you blend carrots enough so that the smoothie isn’t grainy? GREAT QUESTION. The answer is the blender you use makes all the difference!
You need to use a high power blender that is able to pulverize and cream the carrots. Otherwise, you will end up with a grainy smoothie and nobody has time for that.
We love our Vitamix Blender, but there are some less expensive alternatives. Here they are.
Everything You Need to Know
What is a swap for the cashew butter?
You can use any nut butter for this carrot cake recipe. We recommend almond butter before peanut butter, but feel free to use either. Sun butter would also be delicious!
Can I use fresh bananas for this smoothie?
Yes, you can use fresh bananas in this smoothie. However, if you use fresh bananas make sure you add 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of ice to the smoothie as well so you end up with a cold smoothie.
What are good toppings for this carrot cake smoothie?
There are so many different topping options for this carrot cake smoothie. Here are a few of our favorites.
- Walnuts
- Granola
- Fresh berries
